Ok! Here we go! 2112! The Album that broadcasted Rush to the world! Remember – no more entire LP side long tracks right? Well, Geddy, Neil and Alex said a big “Up Yours!” to that and created the mother of ALL concept tracks. And boy, it’s a cracker! From beginning to end it’s a complete blast. It’s so heavy yet complex. And it’s performed so powerfully. It’s listed in 1001 Albums To Hear Before You Die. It also got the band into a bit of trouble. The Ayn Rand sci-fi subject matter, and an interview with Neil where he took up a philosophically opposing viewpoint to the socialist viewpoints of the interviewer had the band labelled as “fascists”. This really upset Rush, and particularly Geddy, who is Jewish and part of who’s family was incarcerated in a concentration camp. Anyway, back to the music. If you have yet to sample Rush I would strongly advise beginning with this album. It’s an absolute joy from beginning to end.

Dolphin

Behold my Dolphin, the Passage To Bangkok! I love this ship. Like the DBS (see Album 3) it runs very cool and is perfect for transporting wanted criminals to popular sightseeing destinations who, shall we say, don’t want any attention from the authorities. Which is a thing in Elite. I love the black taxi paint job you can get for it too. Also, when rescuing personnel from burning stations, if you’re quick enough, you won’t need to use a heatsink. Not with this. And, it looks like a dolphin. How can anyone not love it?
Cobra Mk III

The iconic Cobra Mk III. Called this one the Twilight Zone Possibly one of my favourite ships. Good at almost anything you want to do with it. I used it as a replacement for the Adder for core mining. It had enough slots that meant I didn’t have to swap out the refinery for a fuel scoop to get my benitoite to the highest paying markets. I could fit both. Made a couple of hundred million credits rather quickly in this baby! And, in my opinion, is one of the best looking ships in the game. Maybe the reason I love it so much was because I flew it back when I used to be Commander Jameson. Long, long ago…
